Steve Clemmons started his speech and debate coaching career his senior year at JFK Richmond when he was sent by his NSDA HOF coach David Dansky to teach extemporaneous speaking to Tommie Lindsey Jr.’s students. Steve qualified for the TOC in LD and went on to win national championships in Parliamentary and LD in college.
Over the last three decade Steve has worked with young scholars across CHSSA Area One having spent time at Convent of the Sacred Heart, James Logan, Leland, St. Vincent De Paul, Presentation and Harker. Steve has coached State and National Champions in Congress, Extemp, Parliamentary, Policy, and Lincoln Douglas. From 1996 to 2015, Steve has also coached at the collegiate level for LMU, Weber State, Macalester, Oregon, and Santa Clara. Steve started his current role as Director of Debate at Saratoga in 2009.
Steve also currently teaches World History, English and Electives at Prospect HS and was also appointed as a Professor of Communications at Foothill College. When he isn’t helping young people achieve excellence in public speaking Steve enjoys cooking, travel, and watching the LA Rams.
